Where it begins

I became a hair loss specialist because I became the woman I was looking for.

The woman who would understand without me having to explain.
The woman who wouldn’t stare.
The woman who wouldn’t judge.

The woman who could look at what was left and say, “I see you. And I can bring you back.”

She didn’t exist for me.

So I became her.

And if you’re reading this right now because you’ve stopped recognizing the woman in your mirror… I need you to hear me before you read another word:

I know. Because I was her.

I know that feeling. I’ve lived it. And you are not alone.

My story comes in two parts. The first is how I became known for growing long, healthy, beautiful hair… and for helping thousands of women feel beautiful in my chair. The second is how my own hair loss turned that gift into my current calling.

Whichever woman you are today, there’s a place for you here.

Part One

Created With Purpose.

The beginning

The Girl With the Gift in Her Hands.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a gift in my hands.

If I could see it in my mind… and touch it with my hands… I could create it. I could bring that vision to life.

An old piece of furniture somebody was ready to throw away. Clothing that had been forgotten in the back of a closet. A painting nobody else looked at twice.

Where other people saw damaged, old, or overlooked, I saw what it could be. What it was always meant to be. And I couldn’t rest until I made it beautiful again.

Growing up, everyone thought I was going to be a famous artist because of my artistic ability and because I could draw really well.

But then, at 11 years old, I discovered hair. And everything changed.

Hair became my canvas. My hands finally had a home.

But I have to tell you the truth. The girl with the gift in her hands… didn’t always feel beautiful herself.

I struggled with my own insecurities. With how I looked. The girl with red skin and gold hair. I looked different from the other girls in my community. With the girl staring back at me in the mirror I felt different.

And it was through hair that I found something powerful:

I could build a woman’s self-esteem. With my own two hands.

That’s why I became a highly skilled hairstylist, and then an extensionist. Not because hair weaves & extensions were the trend. Because extensions let me add what she felt was missing. The length. The fullness. The piece of her she’d been longing for.

I knew what it was to feel like something was missing. So I made it my mission to give it back.

Some women already knew they were beautiful. They just wanted me to bring it out a little more. But others… didn’t believe it at all.

Those were the women I wanted to reach.

What I first became known for

Long, Healthy Hair. Whole Families. Thousands of Women.

When I was younger, I had one desire burning in me. I wanted every young girl… every young woman… to know that she was created with purpose. That she was beautiful.

And my way of bringing it out of her was hairstyling. It still is.

While she sat in my chair, I wasn’t just doing her hair. I was encouraging her. Pouring into her. Mentoring her. Speaking life over her until she could start to see what I already saw.

And as I poured into them, I kept sharpening my gift. I learned how to add length. How to add volume. And then I learned something even more powerful:

How to use hair extensions to help a woman grow her own hair. Naturally. Healthy. And really, really long.

That’s what made me a highly skilled, highly effective hairstylist. And that’s what I first became known for.

Women would walk in not feeling beautiful, with hair that wouldn’t grow past a certain point, and they’d walk out feeling beautiful… and watch their own hair grow longer and healthier than they ever imagined.

Word spread. Daughters. Mothers. Nieces. Aunties. I would do whole families.

Over the years, I have serviced thousands of women. Literally, thousands. And every one of them, I wanted to know the same thing:

You were created with purpose. And you are beautiful.

If you’re here because you want long, healthy, beautiful hair, and to feel beautiful while you grow it, our chair is waiting for you.

Part Two

When It Became Personal.

The season

The Season I Lost Myself.

But as life changed with the seasons… as I matured and grew in business, wisdom, and skill set, so did my responsibilities. And one season came for me.

Illness in my family. High levels of stress. Trauma. Running a business all by myself. It was a season where I was holding everybody else together… and slowly coming apart myself.

And that’s when it started. My hair began to fall out.

First a little. Then more. At my crown. At the top of my head. The very places I couldn’t hide.

It became severe. And it was devastating.

I was the one who made other women beautiful. I was the one with the gift. And now I was the one looking in the mirror, turning my head, searching for the woman I used to be.

She wasn’t there.

I didn’t just lose hair. I began to lose my identity.

If you’ve been there, you already know. It’s not “just hair.” It never was.

It’s the way you catch your reflection in a window and look away before you can see too much. It’s the photos you avoid. The angles you’ve memorized. The hats, the scarves, the ponytails placed just so.

It’s the quiet panic in the shower. In the brush. On the pillow.

It’s the moment you stop feeling beautiful… and then, little by little, stop feeling valuable.

I know that feeling. I know what it is to look in the mirror and not recognize the woman looking back.

I know. Because I was her.

The turn

It Started With Me.

But I had something most women in that moment don’t have.

I had my hands, God and a vision.

By then, I was already a highly skilled extensionist. So I did the only thing I knew how to do. The thing I had always done. I created.

I taught myself how to conceal my own hair loss. Not hide it in shame… but cover it in a way that let me look like me again. Feel like me again. Walk out of the house like me again.

It took trial. It took error. It took nights of standing in front of that mirror refusing to give up on the woman I knew was still in there.

And one day, I looked up… and there she was.

Without even realizing it, I had become the woman I was looking for.

It started with me. I had no idea how many women were out there, quietly searching for the very same thing.

“I heard you can help me.”
What they whispered in my chair

Then something started happening. Women began finding me.

They’d sit down in my chair, lower their voice, and lean in close. Almost like they were afraid someone might hear.

“I heard you know how to hide this.”
“I heard you can help me with this alopecia.”

And in that moment, everything I had been through made sense. I wasn’t the only one. I was never the only one.

There were so many of us. Women who had fought cancer and won… but lost their hair in the battle. Women walking through illness. Through stress. Through trauma. Through hormonal changes nobody warned them about. Women who had simply watched their hair grow thinner… and thinner… and thinner over the years, and had quietly stopped talking about it.

Every story was different. But when I looked in their eyes, I saw the very same thing I had seen in my own mirror.

And almost every one of them said some version of the same words:

“I just don’t feel like myself anymore.”

That changed my work forever.

I was not just installing hair anymore, I never really was. I was holding a woman’s identity in my hands.

And every time a woman whispered those words to me, I heard my own voice in hers.

I know. Because I was her.

After the last client went home

The Lab.

As they sat in my chair, they started telling me what they had been up against. They told me about the hair loss companies.

Six thousand dollars. And up.

For one hair replacement system. And that was only the starting price… for something very basic. Very bare minimum.

I sat with that. I thought about the hardworking mother who puts everyone before herself. The wife holding her household together. The daughter caring for her parents. The woman who gives, and gives, and gives…

Not every woman has $6,000 sitting around to get herself back. And no woman should ever have to choose between her family’s needs and feeling like herself again.

That didn’t sit right with my spirit. So I went into the lab.

The lab in my mind. The lab in my salon, long after the last client went home. I began to look. To source. To create. To build.

Piece by piece. System by system. Until I could create my own fully customized hair replacement systems, and custom hair extensions made and sourced just for her, at a far more affordable price.

My calling

Beauty for Ashes.

Let me tell you what nobody says out loud.

Hair loss and damage, breakage or unhealthy hair can be so traumatic that a woman feels like she has lost a part of herself. It can literally be that devastating.

She can feel like she’s no longer valuable. No longer desirable. No longer herself.

She still shows up. She still smiles. She still takes care of everybody. But inside, what she’s left with feels like ashes.

I know, because I’ve held those ashes in my own hands. And this is my calling:

To give her beauty for ashes.

To take what feels burned down and lost… and trade it in.

  • For self-worth.
  • For confidence.
  • For restoration.
  • For the freedom to walk into a room and not think about her hair at all.
  • For her. Her identity. Her reflection. Back where it belongs.

Because she was never ashes. She was always beauty, waiting for someone to see it.

If you’re reading this and it feels like I’m describing you… I am.

And you don’t have to wait one more day to start finding her again.

Your consultation

When She Sits in Our Chair.

Every transformation at Salon DeJa’Ris begins with a consultation. Calm. Unhurried. Respectful.

No rushing. No judgment. No one staring.

Because I remember what it took for me to finally face my own mirror. And I know what it took for her to walk through my door.

So before anyone ever touches her hair, we ask her three questions:

  1. I.How do you remember yourself?
  2. II.How do you see yourself today?
  3. III.How do you want to see yourself?

Sometimes she answers right away. Sometimes she gets quiet. Sometimes the tears come before the words do. And that’s okay. That’s exactly why we’re here.

We ask her to show us pictures. The woman she used to be. The woman she dreams of seeing again. What would make her feel comfortable… feel safe… feel free.

And then we study her. Not just her hair. Her.

Then we pour everything I’ve built into bringing that vision to life: custom hair replacement systems, extensions, coverage techniques, blending, styling, and healthy-hair care. As naturally as possible. Until no one can tell but her.

Sometimes that means length or fullness. Sometimes it means covering a thinning crown. Sometimes it means creating hair where there is very little hair left at all. And sometimes, it simply means helping a woman look in the mirror and recognize herself again.

My clients call me a miracle worker. The truth is… I listen. I pay attention. I see the woman she was, and the woman she wants to be.

And I use everything God placed in my hands to bring her back.

The moment I live for

The Moment: “There I Am.”

There is a moment I live for. It happens at the very end.

I turn her chair toward the mirror. And for a second… she doesn’t say anything at all. She just looks.

She touches her hair. Her crown. Her part. Like she’s making sure it’s real.

And then I watch it happen. Her shoulders drop. Her chin lifts. Her eyes fill up. And she whispers it:

“There I am.”

And in that moment, she isn’t the only one crying.

Because this work gets emotional. It’s supposed to. We’re not just doing hair. We’re witnessing a woman come home to herself.

That recognition… that statement alone… can bring you to tears. It can be a very emotional process. And I feel honored, truly honored, to be a part of it.

Because I remember standing in front of my own mirror, searching for that very same woman. And I remember the day I found her.

So when I hand that moment back to another woman… I’m not just giving. I’m receiving, too. Her healing heals something in me, every single time.

That is the exchange. That is the gift. Beauty for ashes, passed from my hands to hers.

100+

To date, more than 100 women have sat in my chair and found themselves again. And I remember every one.

The standard

From My Hands to Theirs.

For years, I was the stylist. The one whole families asked for by name. The one women drove across the city and states to see.

I have always wanted to be one of the greatest.

And somewhere along the way, I learned what greatness really is. It isn’t measured only by what you can do with your own two hands…

It’s measured by what you can pour into someone else’s.

So I took everything. Every technique. Every system. Every lesson I learned in the lab and in the chair. And I built it into a method that could be taught.

Today, I personally hire and train passionate stylists, young and seasoned, to replicate my systems. I train them myself. Hands-on. Personally. I train them to become great.

And I train them on more than hair. I train them to listen first. To ask the three questions. To see the woman, not just her hair. To protect her dignity like it’s their own.

When you come to Salon DeJa’Ris, you will most likely be cared for by a member of my team. Trained by me. Carrying my systems. Carrying my heart.

And if you would like to be serviced by me personally, you are always welcome to request me.

Because this is not about one star stylist. It’s about a standard.

And every woman deserves it.
